Conversion of the sole trader to the current limited company, "Heinrich Wilke GmbH".

1970

The development of the "111" lever handle by Rudolph Wilke, the son of Heinrich Wilke, finds the "right" form for nylon. The great success of these products stems from the classic styling combined with the wide colour range of the brightly polished finishes. This is an innovative product, unique in this period - a fact that is clearly demonstrated by the large number of imitations in the following years.

1974

The foundation stone for a new production shop is laid. Heinrich Wilke GmbH now operates from a 40,000 sq. m. site, manufacturing products for national and international markets.

1979

Introduction of products for the elderly and handicapped. These products provide the basis for what will later become the concept of "barrier-free living".

From 12th June to 29th September, the international art exhibition, documenta 8, in Kassel shows works by 150 artists, 12 architects, 20 designers and HEWI. The slogan of the exhibition is: "The return of art to the social dimension". The exhibition is organised by Manfred Schneckenburger.

1988

HEWI develops the 476 "bath" series, and is awarded the Design Innovation Prize by Designzentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen.

1992

HEWI turns to new applications: magnetic-mechanical and electronic locking systems. New concept of fittings for barrier-free living. The HEWI product range for children is developed.

1996

For the first time in its history, HEWI organises a competition: the innovation competition "HEWI metal - a classic seeks connections".
